Allergen Statement

Treasure Mills sources direct from manufacturers that operate nut and peanut free facilities. An allergic reaction can be produced by a tiny amount of ingredient that a person is sensitive to (for example a fragment of a peanut or just one or two sesame seeds).

Symptoms of all allergic reaction include stomach upsets, rashes, itching of the skin or mouth, swelling of the throat and difficulties breathing.

All prepacked foods sold in Canada need to clearly show on the label if they contain one of the following as an ingredient (or if one of its ingredients contains, or is made from, one of these):

  • Peanuts
  • Nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, Brazil nuts, cashews, pecans, pistachios, macadamia nuts and Queensland nuts)
  • Eggs
  • Milk
  • Crustaceans (including prawns, crab and lobster)
  • Molluscs (including squid, mussels, cockles, whelks and snails)
  • Fish
  • Sesame seeds
  • Cereals containing gluten (including wheat, rye, barley and oats)
  • Soya
  • Lupin
  • Celery
  • Mustard
  • Sulphur dioxide/sulphites (preservatives uses in some foods and drinks) at levels above 10 mg per kg or per litre.

These statements aim to alert the consumer to the possible presence of an allergen in the food and to prevent the consumption of products labelled with a “may contain” statement.

Treasure Mill’s policy is to declare all allergens on the package, with the ingredient list. We also place a “may contain” warning on the package, where there is risk of unavoidable addition. We advise customers to read the label every time. This is a list of the common food allergens that Treasure Mills lists:

  • Peanuts
  • Milk
  • Tree Nuts*
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Eggs
  • Soy
  • Fish, crustaceans and shellfish
  • Wheat
  • Sulphites > 10mg/kg
  • Dairy
  • Fats
  • Sugars
  • Trans Fats

*Tree Nuts =almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios or walnuts

At Treasure Mills our storage, sourcing of ingredients, cleaning, packaging and testing systems have been put in place to help minimize allergen cross-contamination. At this time, it is impossible to test for all tree nut products as third party validation is not available.
